The First Story

The Perfect Day

Imagine that you were walkin’ along one day takin’ in the sights and getting some sun on your bod since it had been raining for 12 weeks straight. The birds were out chirping and flyin’. The gnats were out gnattin’ or whatever gnats do on sunny days. The bees were doing their thing and makin’ honey. Everything was perfect. Even on the home front you had a great life. You had great parents. They were always there for you. Anytime you had a problem you knew that you could always go to them and talk it through.

 The Earthquake

As you were walking along, you suddenly heard this really loud noise behind you and the noise came closer and closer. The ground started shaking, at first it wasn’t too bad but it kept getting worse. The ground shook so hard that you thought your arms would fall off. You felt like you were one of those bobble-head doll like thingies ‘cause your head was bobbling so bad. Just as suddenly as it came on the earthquake stopped. It was so quiet you could hear yourself breathing again.

The Canyon

You picked yourself off of the ground and looked behind you in the direction of your house. The ground had split open. There was now a huge canyon between you and your house. The canyon was huge. It was at least a hundred yards wide. You were stuck. You were on one side and your town and your house and your family and friends were on the other.

What’cha gonna do now? How are you ever going to get back home? You were missing them already, even your bratty little sis and bro. You would give anything to get back to them. Why had you taken that walk? Why couldn’t you have stayed home? If you had stayed at home you wouldn’t be in the mess that you are in now. You had such a perfect life before the quake.

The Impossible Jump

You knew right away that there is no way to jump across and there’s no way to walk around the canyon. You were really stuck. It was an impossible jump. Now . . .you could try to get to the other side by jumping, but there’s no way you could even jump 5 yards or even 10. Even if you were really athletic, you still couldn’t jump across this canyon. You were stuck, maybe forever. The only way that you would be rescued was if someone were to fly a helicopter over to your side and pick you up. Unfortunately there’s no one in the town that has one. What makes it worse was that your mom and dad were away on vacation and wouldn’t be back for a couple of weeks. You were totally freaked out.
